MINNEAPOLIS --

Minneapolis-based ScoreSide announced today a new campaign with recently-named Athlete Ambassador CJ Sapong to drive money to  The Backline Supporters Collective (BSC).

The BSC is integral to Nashville SC’s gameday experience and is key to driving fan experience for the club.

Sapong joined Nashville SC in 2021, and is partnering with BSC to power an immediate impact on and off the pitch.

The campaign will allow users who download the ScoreSide app to choose a custom amount to donate per goal. Every dollar goes as a charitable contribution to the BSC, who will work directly with Sapong to fund initiatives deemed most impactful for the collective greater good in the Nashville SC community.

“CJ, ScoreSide and The Backline have teamed to get a jumpstart on the new MLS season by building a community of soccer fans who’ll help drive money where it’s most impactful,” said ScoreSide founder Ben Bakken.

“CJ just last week agreed to accept a critical role for our organization, serving as our first Athlete Ambassador to assist in building social capital in our partner markets,” added Bakken. “We hope the result is money going to organizations primed to change the way our communities rally to support one another and build each other up.”

In support of his athlete-sponsored campaign, every goal scored by Sapong adds $5 to a user’s donation, no matter the amount chosen.

Sapong has over a decade of experience supporting the communities in which he plays. The former MLS Rookie of the Year and current forward has not only founded non-profit organizations, but serves as an executive board member for Black Players for Change (BPC). He is extremely excited to partner with ScoreSide and BSC for Nashville SC in their sophomore season.

“This partnership with ScoreSide and The Backline opens doors for us to build upon a foundation of charitable giving that’s already driven positive change and helped scores of people,” said Sapong. “The technology and vision here brings new ways to extend our social footprint and continue to grow communities that build upon their fandom to make positive change.”

BSC gathers each gameday to coordinate a social and inclusive pre-game atmosphere for all supporters. It orchestrates a rowdy and raucous environment in the supporters’ end of the stadium to propel Nashville SC, and facilitates travel to away matches to take their show on the road.

ScoreSide, in its second year, is a new, real-time mobile platform that helps grow and unite online communities of sports fans with a shared passion for giving. It has hundreds of active campaigns across the NHL, NBA, MLB, and MLS, and recently ran campaigns for every team participating in the 2021 NCAA men’s college basketball tournament.
